Reviews of The Stormi Collection

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Kylie launched the new Stormi Collection in celebration of her daughter’s second birthday. The full bundle is valued at $118 and is being sold at $108. It includes the following:

  • 1x Stormi Mini Palette
  • 1x Mini High Gloss Set
  • 1x Heads in the Clouds Mini Lip Kit
  • 1x Give Me Butterflies Mini Lip Kit
  • 1x Stormi Mini Lip Kit
  • 1x Flutter in Love Blush

First impressions

Not everyone falls in love at first sight— at least that’s the case with the Stormi bundle collection. Reactions are pretty split; some reviewers are going gaga for the whole cuteness factor of makeup that’s inspired by a two-year-old, while others find the whole concept obnoxious and exploitative.

What can Stormi say?

Okay, so there’s been some backlash on how Kylie is using her baby daughter to sell products. Only days after the collection’s release, angry Reddit reviewers are already taking their complaints to the internet.

Realistically speaking, how much input can a toddler really have in a makeup branding collaboration? Reviewer nicknamed, 129872 wrote, “It’s so weird because Stormi is more in the spotlight than Kendall and Kylie ever were growing up, and Kylie used to talk frequently about how she wasn’t meant to be famous and the lifestyle seemed to give her a lot of anxiety. They’re all just putting their children in that same position.” MakeupForDummies commented, “I don’t ever agree with regular people sharing their kids’ lives all over social media until the kids are old enough to agree to it themselves.”

Happier thoughts…

YouTube vlogger, Nicol Concilio was not among the supercritical bunch. She enjoyed the butterfly theme of the packaging, designed with dreamy pastels and flowers. From Reddit, Lawschoolhopeful39 felt the packaging was “a little too immature and ‘toy-ish’”, but then again, the makeup bundle is dedicated to a toddler.

Another Reddit reviewer, stovakt wrote, “I think the colors in the palette are very pretty, but the whole campaign/packaging looks trashy and tacky as hell…the low budget and overly edited photoshoot, the super long dead looking extensions, the cliche butterflies, and the fact that she looks like a young girl pretending to be a goddess-like mature/serious mom holding her child.”

Clearly, you can’t please everyone. Let’s move on to the products.

Stormi eye shadows

Telling a story of warm, fuzzy feelings, the angelic colors are a heartfelt concept. Purple and warm neutrals are the general motif in the Stormi mini palette. Featuring 9 colors, there’s a balanced range of shimmery metallics and mattes, including a couple blending colors, the dusty pink and muted lavender. Overall, the general consensus online is that the palette features a pretty strong color story.

Nicol Concilio was mostly thumbs-up about the swatches. She created a gorgeous look with the deep raspberry shade, loving everyone moment, except wasn’t too impressed with the matte shades. Apparently the neutral tones weren’t as glam-looking as shown in the photos. She did also notice some fallout when dusting the product onto her eye shadow brush. When fallout happens, it’s usually a sign that the pigments are too drying or chalky. In this case, the product may not adhere to the skin too well unless you’re using an excellent primer and moisturizer.

Reddit reviewer u/roburn wrote, “I actually kind of liked the colors in the palette (still not gonna buy it tho).” Wiklr replied, “It’s not for me but I really dig the color story.” So it seems nobody can argue against the colors being beautiful, but is that enough?

Stormi Glosses

It’s hard to disappoint with a high-shine lip gloss. The Stormi mini gloss set includes 6 gorgeous shades, each ultra luminous and smooth in texture.

According to the website description, the glosses are made with shea butter, “leaving behind a radiant and moisturizing shine”. Nicol Concilio put these claims to the test in her review video, trying two shades: Sweet Dreams (a sheer bubblegum pink) and Deepest Love (a sheer cherry red). As Nicol pointed out, the Sweet Dreams color looked more like a nude– maybe a bit too sheer? As for Deepest Love, the color was in fact lovely, bursting with berry red and a romantic luster. This one was her keeper.

However, Reddit reviewer, u/roburn wasn’t as thrilled: “Only half-way released swatches of the glosses like 2 hours before the launch. It doesn’t get me excited for it whatsoever. I just decided I’m going to wait for when she announces that the lip kits and glosses are going to be a part of her permanent collection and come full-sized. And then I’ll wait for the sale lol.”

So what’s the verdict?

Is the Stormi collection worthy of our applause? From an unbiased stance, some of the products in the bundle might be better than others. We’ll praise the glosses, while the eye shadows, being charming and all, aren’t exactly the highest quality, they can still be fun to play around with at home. As for the other Stormi products, we’ll leave the final decision to you. And we will send a big congrats to Kylie for the big launch. What a busy mama!
